Hertfordshire skies

Yes, I did get wet. Very wet.

Sad, but...

...if I die on the road, please don't do this.

Bliss!

River Lea Ride - 8th August 2010

Cycled all the way down the River Lea to London on Sunday. 31.4 miles on the clock, but that doesn't include cycling up the hill from the station on the way back! This is something I've wanted to do for a some time and the opportunity came up out of the blue.

The basic route was all the way down the River Lea with a slight diversion along the Greenway to look at the Olympic building site at the View Tube. I came off the river at the Bow Flyover (although I could have followed it a bit further - maybe next time) and took the Mile End Road to Liverpool Street Station.

It's actually not a difficult ride being every so slightly downhill (think about it) and on well surfaced tow paths. Having said that my arse ached a bit the following day!

Ouch!

Just come off the Brompton. I was leaving work and just approaching escape velocity when I decided to cross a patch of gravel. Unfortunately the gravel was about 10 inches deep and stopped the front wheel instantly causing me to fly over the handle bars onto the concrete path.

Damage to me; sore hand, shin and ribs. Damage to Brompton; almost nil, apart from a broken lamp - impressive. Damage to ego; totally embarrassing - did it right outside the office window!

Hertford to Hatfield House

Rode to Hatfield House on Sunday to meet up with friends. There and back again via the Cole Green Way and the usual diversions amounted to 21.3 miles.

Watch me bike mate?

Hatfield House - Mission accomplished

Ideal homes in WGC

41 houses were built at Handside Lane in Welwyn Garden City for the 1922 Daily Mail ideal home exhibition. The house were built to demonstrate various building techniques to provide affordable housing after the 1st World War. This forms a small village within Welwyn Garden City an needless to say it now looks like a rather affluent area.

(Next time, I'll take some pictures of the houses themselves!)

Sunday Sun Fun Run

Sunday bought out the sunshine and the fun runners. Cycled to Hatfield House to meet up with everyone and got caught up with this lot on the Cole Green Way.

No way

Not many people realise that this means no Motor Vehicles. Cycles are allowed and this is actually part of National Cycle route 61.

Alpaca

Sometimes I think there are more alpacas in Hertfordshire than Peru. This one was spotted by the Cole Green Way
